The one that started it all, SNOO is the OG of smart cribs. The brainchild of Dr. Harvey Karp, pediatrician, author and baby sleep whisperer, SNOO is designed to add one to two hours of sleep per night by automatically responding to your baby’s crying with a mix of motion and white noise. The rocking and shushing move through increasing levels depending on how much comfort your baby needs (there are custom options available too) then revert back to a gentle baseline once your baby has calmed down.
One other feature helps SNOO stand out from the competition: a built-in swaddle. SNOO Sacks are easy to get on and attach directly to each inner side of the bassinet, preventing your baby from rolling into an unsafe sleep position and helping them to feel snug and secure.
SNOO’s modern design is beautifully minimalist and complements any decor, and the bassinet’s mesh sides allow for both visibility and breathability.
What’s Worth Considering
The biggest downside (and the most polarizing feature) of SNOO is the price tag; it’s really, really expensive. There is a rental option ($159 per month with a one-month rental minimum), but that can add up quickly if you’re renting the bassinet over a long period of time. You can also look into purchasing a Certified Pre-Loved SNOO to help offset the cost. Each bassinet is put through a five-step “refresh and recondition” process that ensures it meets standards for safety, cleanliness and quality.
Another thing to consider is that some pediatricians and physical and occupational therapists recommend either a specific usage window of a few months or skipping SNOO altogether due to how it limits babies’ natural movements and may lead to developmental issues down the road. We recommend talking with your pediatrician about any concerns you may have.

High-tech bassinets have lots going for them—but price generally isn’t something you’d rave about for most. That’s not the case with Graco’s Sense2Snoooze. While not as affordable as more traditional sleep options, this motion-activated bassinet is a lot less expensive than many similar smart cribs and is our top budget-friendly pick.
This smart bassinet is equipped with something called Cry Technology. It uses a built-in microphone that listens for your baby’s cries and responds with front-to-back motion, soothing sounds and varying speed and vibration levels. A nice addition is the ability to customize the settings; once you find what works for your particular baby, you’ll be able to save it as the bassinet’s go-to. (The bassinet will cycle through either Graco’s settings or your own custom settings for five different sequences for 30 seconds each sequence. If the crying hasn’t stopped after 10 minutes, the bassinet will gradually turn off.)
Two more standouts here: the smart bassinet is on wheels for easy portability, a feature lots of parents rave about, and there’s a reverse canopy to block out light during daytime naps.
What’s Worth Considering
Some users note that baby’s crying has to be fairly loud in order to trigger the bassinet’s motion, but that’s not the case for all. The integrated storage pockets are on the smaller side. Some parents also mention that the motor can start to sound quite loud after extended use.

Price-wise, the mamaRoo isn’t the cheapest smart crib on our list, but it’s not the most expensive, either. Other features to love include built-in white noise, breathable mesh sides, adjustable-height legs and Bluetooth capabilities so you can control all the features from your phone or another compatible smart device.
What’s Worth Considering
Unlike some of the smart bassinets on our list, the 4moms Sleep Bassinet isn’t motion-activated, so you’ll need to manually turn on the movement features either when you put your little one to sleep or if you hear them fussing. Motion maxes out at four hours then automatically shuts off, which isn’t an issue for younger babies (as they generally wake up frequently to eat) but may be an issue as your little one grows and starts to stretch out their sleep a bit more. Some parents notice a jerky motion when the bassinet turns off and/or switches between motions.

This completely unique sleep solution is a bassinet, a crib and a baby monitor all rolled into one (very) smart package. Similar to SNOO, Cradlewise automatically responds with a gentle bouncing motion when your baby starts fussing to soothe them back to sleep. But it takes things one step further. The built-in baby monitor (it’s located in the middle of the wooden bar that’s positioned over the top of the crib) learns your baby’s sleep patterns and schedule and responds accordingly. (The bouncing then turns off once your little one has settled down.) There’s also white noise and other sounds, tons of customization options and sleep analytics.
What’s Worth Considering
Like a few other smart cribs on our list, Cradlewise is really pricey; however, you’ll be able to use it from day one in bassinet mode through around two years old in crib mode, so it does go the distance. (The built-in smart monitor helps to justify the cost, too, since you won’t need to purchase one separately.) Users complain that the sleep analytics aren’t fine-tuned yet and can be quite glitchy. And while some parents reported that their babies liked the up and down bouncing motion, others felt it didn’t do the trick.

If you’re looking for the responsive benefits of a smart crib but aren’t sure if you want to introduce motion into your sleep routine, the Luminate Bassinet from Fisher-Price may be right for you. Although it’s stationary, it does have something called the Smart Sensing System. It detects your baby’s cries and has three different response modes with soothing features like an amber nightlight, music, sounds and vibration—all controlled from your smartphone or other compatible device and all fairly customizable depending on your baby’s preferences.
We love this bassinet’s clean, modern look and the breathable mesh sides. The floor light is another great feature; the soft light turns on automatically as you approach, perfect for those middle-of-the-night feeds.
What’s Worth Considering
As mentioned above, there’s no motion built into the Luminate. While this is a plus for some parents (and some babies), others may see it as a drawback, especially considering the bassinet’s price. Also note that although this smart crib does feature automatic response, the Smart Sensing System must be turned on manually from the bassinet’s control panel in order to be activated.

The first thing you’ll probably notice about the EVI is its beautiful design. With a solid wood walnut base and a beautifully minimalist, structured fabric sleeping space, this bassinet isn’t short on style. Thankfully it’s not short on smart features, either.
This smart crib features motion, lights and sound to help soothe your baby during sleep. Similar to other smart cribs on our list, you can control EVI through the bassinet’s mobile app—but you can also connect EVI to Amazon Alexa or Google Home, a huge perk if you don’t want to have to keep track of your phone overnight or simply want a little break from staring at your screen.
The lighting on the EVI is also really unique. You can choose from an always-on ambient light setting or running ambient sensory lights, a distinct feature found only on this smart bassinet. There are a lot of customization options to work with as well and the bassinet comes with two super-soft bamboo sheets.
What’s Worth Considering
You’ll need to turn on the bassinet’s side-to-side motion manually; it’s not auto-responsive to baby’s cries. (The price tag is also on the higher end for a non-responsive smart bassinet.) And while some babies may find the sensory lights soothing, it may have the opposite effect on others.

What Is a Smart Crib?
Traditional cribs and bassinets are safe sleep spaces designed specifically for infants, babies and toddlers. Smart cribs take things up a notch by adding technology into the mix.
Smart cribs often include features like motion, sound, lights and vibrations. Some smart cribs detect your baby’s cries and respond with motion and sounds; others learn your baby’s sleep patterns and can even start soothing them before they fully wake up. (Many also offer sleep analytics so you can track and analyze your baby’s sleep over time.) Most smart cribs are Bluetooth compatible and can be controlled via an app on your phone or other devices, and some can be linked to Amazon Alexa or Google Home.
Are Smart Cribs Worth It?
Figuring out whether or not to add a smart crib or bassinet to your registry comes down to personal preference—there really isn’t a right or wrong answer.
Here are a few things to consider if you’re thinking of registering for or purchasing a smart crib or bassinet:
- Budget. Smart cribs are more expensive—sometimes significantly so—than traditional baby sleep spaces. If you’re planning on a small family and hope to move your baby into a traditional full-size crib sooner rather than later, then a smart crib may not be worth the price tag. But if you’re hoping to use the crib through multiple children or want to max out the time your baby will be in the bassinet, then a smart crib may be worth the investment.
- Motion. Many smart cribs on our list feature motion, either manual (you’ll need to hit a button yourself either on the unit or via an app) or auto-response (the bassinet detects your baby’s movements and crying and auto-responds with motion and/or other soothing features). Some parents swear by motion and say it helped their baby sleep for longer stretches. For others, the motion didn’t seem to make a difference one way or another. There’s also the concern that some babies may become dependent on motion for sleep and will eventually have to be weaned from it in order to sleep independently.
- Information overload. If you’re the type of person who loves stats, analytics, schedules and all the information on your baby’s sleep, then a smart bassinet is likely right up your alley. But what if too much information feeds your anxiety instead of easing it? There’s a lot to worry about as a new parent, and you shouldn’t bring anything into your home that you think may add to an already stressful time.
Are Smart Cribs Safe?
Yes, smart cribs and bassinets are safe, but just like with any baby product, you’ll want to pay close attention to the guidelines and usage recommendations for your specific item. This is especially true since smart cribs and bassinets are used for sleep, and safe sleep practices should always be on your mind as a parent.
You’ll be able to use most smart bassinets from the newborn stage until your baby is able to move around, push up on their hands or roll over, usually between about three and five months old. (If your smart bassinet converts to a crib, that extends your usage window significantly.) Some smart bassinets and cribs have weight restrictions as well, which vary depending on the model you purchase.
