Best Humidifiers for Babies of 2024
There’s not a lot you can do when your baby has a cold. Moist air helps, so enter baby humidifiers.

We won’t lie: it’s so hard when your little one gets sick.
Whether it’s congestion, a sore throat or that dreaded barking cough that comes along with the croup, a sick, cranky baby or toddler is no fun.
When it comes to babies + lots of common colds and viruses, there’s not a whole lot you can do except provide as much comfort (and snuggles) as possible. And that’s where a humidifier comes in.
Do You Need a Humidifier for Baby?
For lots of parents, a humidifier for baby is a must-have, especially during cold and flu season. Moist air can help ease upper respiratory symptoms and soothe sore throats while your little one sleeps. It can also help dry, itchy skin and help create a more comforting sleeping environment all around.
What Kind of Humidifier Is Best for Baby?
There are two basic types of humidifiers: cool mist and warm mist. Both are great at adding moisture to the air, but cool mist humidifiers are recommended for use around small children. That’s because your little one could get burned by the steam or hot water produced by a warm mist humidifier if they get too close.
While many parents consider humidifiers an essential nursery item, there is a downside: keeping them clean. (Which is a major pain. Sorry.) For most humidifiers, the cleaning process involves taking things apart, scrubbing, soaking with white vinegar, etc. … on a weekly basis. (Insert collective groan here.)
But it’s also massively important, because the consistently moist climate a humidifier creates is a mecca for mold and bacteria that can then get dispersed into the air, which isn’t great for anyone, but especially not for a baby or young child. So although it may not be your favorite to-do item, it’s important to stay on top of keeping your humidifier as clean as possible while it’s in use.
When Do You Use a Humidifier for Baby?
There’s no rule around when you should (or shouldn’t) use a humidifier in your baby’s nursery; it’s more a matter of personal preference. Some parents like to keep a cool mist humidifier going 24/7, especially if they live in a colder climate where the air gets dry as the temperatures plunge. Other parents break out the humidifier when baby is sick or congested to help ease their symptoms.
How We Chose Our Best Humidifiers
We asked thousands of real Babylist families about the baby products they love the most, then took the top products they shared with us and added our own research and insight to tell you about the best humidifiers.
Best Humidifier for Baby
What Our Experts Say
This popular humidifier gets our best-of pick for its price, ease of use and effectiveness. With multiple colors, it fits any style. It uses ultrasonic technology to push moisture into the air using sound vibrations, which means no loud fan (yay) or filters to replace (double yay). It works best in rooms up to 500 square feet and features an automatic shutoff when it runs out of water.
What’s Worth Considering
The Crane Drop has a nightlight so you can adjust the mist level in the dark; however, it doesn’t shut off. (We’ve been known to wrap a swaddle blanket around the body of the humidifier to dim the light for little ones who prefer a darker sleep environment.)
What Babylist Parents Say
“We purchased this one right after our baby got sick. She was having trouble breathing through her stuffy nose, and once we plugged in the humidifier she slept better.” -Vivianna P.
