Of all the things you may need for a new baby, clothing is definitely one of the more adorable things to register for. Because of that, it’s the one gift you’ll likely get a ton of at your baby shower. Registering for a basic capsule wardrobe can help steer folks in the right direction. Your baby will need some everyday basics to lounge in, cozy jammies for sleep, plus a few outfits that’ll work for special occasions. Also keep in mind that those tiny clothes need to stand up to poopsplosions and copious amounts of drool, while also feeling as comfy as a pair of sweats. Stick to things that mostly require a low maintenance wash and dry routine.

Everyday Basics
From spit-ups to blowouts, you may find yourself changing your baby’s outfit a few times per day. It’s a good idea to keep their wardrobe stocked with basics such as bodysuits and pants. You can find multipacks of tops and bottoms that coordinate for easy outfits—and they’re often budget-friendly. We recommend having about seven bodysuits or rompers and three to five pants (double that amount if you’ll be doing laundry once per week!).
Cozy Jammies
Get the zippers, always the zippers (seriously, you’ll thank us). Gowns are also helpful in the newborn period for easy middle-of-the-night diaper changes. Look for 100% cotton or breathable bamboo materials so they’ll stay calm and comfy all night long. We recommend having about four pajamas on hand.

Baby socks and shoes are notorious for slipping off of tiny baby feet and ankles. Booties are a life-saver since they fasten with a button or Velcro around baby’s ankles.
